BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has appealed against the verdict that increased her punishment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
In the appeal, she also sought bail in the case and stay on the punishment.
The apex court is yet to fix any date for hearing the appeal.
While talking to The Daily Star, Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said they will place argument before the apex court during hearing of the appeal petition.
On October 30, the High Court enhanced her five-year jail term that was handed down by a lower court in the corruption case.
The new punishment was 10 years imprisonment.
The five other accused in the case, including her son Tarique Rahman who is now BNP’s acting chairman, were awarded 10 years’ imprisonment for misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that had come from a foreign bank in grants for orphans.
