Kabir Humayun: A writ petition was filed with the High Court yesterday seeking its directive on the authorities concerned for providing better treatment to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia who is now in a jail.
Barrister Nawshad Jamir, BNP chief’s lawyer, filed the writ petition with the concerned branch of the court at noon, reports UNB.
The hearing on the writ petition is likely to be held this week, said Jamir.
According to the writ petition, Khaleda has been suffering from chronic diseases and so she needs to be taken to a specialized hospital for better treatment.
Six people, including home secretary, Inspector General of Prisons, Dhaka civil surgeon, deputy commissioner, were made respondents.
A special court, on February 8 last, here sentenced Khaleda to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Since then she has been kept in Old Dhaka Central Jail.
