DOT Desk: Two drug peddlers were killed in a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Teknaf upazila in the district, reports The Daily Sun.
Two firearms including one foreign pistol, 11 rounds of bullet and 40,000 Yaba tablets were recovered after the gunfight.
The deceased was identified as Md Sabbir Hossain, 25, son of Md Ibrahim of Bagerhat, and Md Hafizur Rahman, 30, son of Md Abdul Matin of Dhaka district.
Rab-7, Cox’s Bazar Camp Commander Major Mehedi Hasan said on information that a gang of drug peddlers was transporting a huge consignment of Yaba to the capital from Teknaf upazila, a team of the Rab carried out a drive in Damdamia area under Hnila union of the upazila around 2:00am.
The Rab men signalled a Cox’s Bazar-bound covered van at a check post during the drive. But, the vehicle tried to defy the signal, he said.
At one stage, the drug peddlers opened fire from the vehicle prompting the elite crime busters to retaliate with bullet resulting in a gunfight, said the Rab officer.
The bullet-hit bodies of duo were found lying on the spot after the gunfight, he said.
