MCC World Cricket Committee Chairman gave a statement saying sorry for loosing Shakib AL Hasan from the committee as Shakib has stepped down from his involvement with the MCC World Cricket after being banned for two years from all forms of cricket by the ICC with one year of that suspended.
Mike Gatting, Chairman of the World Cricket committee said; “We are sorry to lose Shakib from the committee, where he has made a great contribution over the last couple of years. As guardians of the Spirit of Cricket we support his resignation and believe this was the right decision.”
MCC World Cricket Committee is an independent body compromised of current and former cricket players and umpires from all over the world which aim is to meet twice yearly to discuss the prevalent issues in the game. Shakib joined the MCC World Cricket committee in October 2017, and has subsequently attended meetings in both Sydney and Bengaluru. The next meeting is due to take place in Sri Lanka in March 2020.
Shakib was found to be in breach of ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code for failing to report approach by bookies. According to the ICC media release, Shakib was approached during the home tri-series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka last year in January before he was approached a second time during the same series.
He also failed to report an approach during the IPL 2018 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kings XI Punjab on 26 April 2018.
