[2] It has been passed in the parliament with a specific provision to give the power to use information technology to ensure the virtual presence of those involved in handling cases in the court, reports Ittefaq.
[3] Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday proposed to pass ‘Use of Information Technology Bill-2020’ in Parliament. Later it was passed by voice vote, reports Daily Bangladesh.
[4] Regarding the provisions of the bill, Law Minister Anisul Huq said, “All such activities were banned in all courts and public and private institutions of the country where public gathering happens, with declaring public holidays, to prevent coronavirus transmission. This provision has been made to ensure that people receive uncertain justice. If the situation is normal, judicial proceedings will be conducted in accordance with the existing provisions except in special circumstances.” [5] The bill stipulates that the High Court Division may issue practice directions (special or general) as required, like the Appellate Division or the field of the Supreme Court.
The court has made the provision to repeal Information Technology Ordinance 2010 for the bill.
