Nine dead in countrywide road accidents
Abrar Hussain: Nine people have been killed and at least 12 injured in road accidents throughout the country yesterday.
A head-on collision on the Sirajganj-Bogura Highway in Sirajganj’s Raiganj Upazila between a truck and covered van left three dead and another three injured, reported BDnews24.
The deceased were identified as Rashidul, 24, Rahman, 32, and Alamin, 20. The injured, identified as Sagor Ali, 30, Minhaz, 22, and Md Sohel, 20, were admitted to the Raiganj Upazila Medical Complex for treatment.
Police said the truck, headed from Dhaka to Bogura, crashed into a covered van travelling in the opposite direction. Both vehicles overturned into a roadside ditch.
Meanwhile, three people were killed and nine others injured when a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Shariatpur. The accident took place on the Kanarbazar-Atang road near the Patnigoan Bridge area in the Sadar Upazila around 10pm on Saturday night.
The dead were identified as Rahmat Gazi, 40, Naim, 20, and Idris, 48, hailing from the Cheshua area in Satkhira’s Ashashuni Upazila.
Four of the nine wounded were identified as Abdul Hamid, 30, Mohsin, 40, Ismail Sardar, 40 and Rabiul Gazi, 48. All of them were admitted to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
Inspector Ashraf stated that 12 workers had come from Satkhira to Achurha village in Shariatpur’s Naria Upazila to harvest paddy and were on their way home after work when the accident occurred.
“The paddy-loaded truck carrying the workers veered out of the driver’s control and fell into a roadside ditch, killing three of them on the spot.”
Abdul Hamid and Mohsin said nine of them managed to escape with their lives while three others were trapped under the truck.In another accident, three people were killed when a covered van hit pedestrians on the Dhaka-Bogra highway at Sonka Bazar in Sherpur upazila yesterday.
