Sayeed Muhammad: It is just a matter of time that Munzarin Raian is becoming Bangladesh’s first female first officer (FO) to operate the, “Akash Beena,” Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, reports the Dhaka Tribune.
“Congratulations to Munzarin Raian from BAH as the first Bangladeshi and the first woman in the right seat of the Biman Dreamliner,” said the Bangladesh Aviation Hub’s (BAH) Facebook page.
Munzarin, in her Facebook status posted on September 21, said she started her journey as the first officer of the Boeing 787. However, the national flag-career’s public relations officer could not be reached over phone despite several attempts.
Earlier on September 5, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the maiden flight of the country’s first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Biman added the new aircraft to its fleet on August 19. The 271-seat Boeing 787-8 has been designed to be 20 percent fuel efficient than other aircraft of its class.
In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines had signed a US$2.1 billion agreement with Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft, of which Sunday’s Dreamliner was the seventh.
The remaining three 787s are slated to join Biman’s fleet between this November and September next year.
