[2] Bangladesh immigrants in Malaysia, particularly the undocumented workers, are facing serous food crisis as the government of that country extended the lockdown period amid coronavirus outbreak, reports The Daily Observer. [3] The authorities are taking stern action against those violate the rules. They either fine rule violators or send them to jail. [4] Though, the government announced paying salaries amid lockdown, the workers are not sure whether they get it. Most of the companies are not interested to pay the salaries as their productions are completely halted. [5] However, the Bangladeshi immigrants urged the authorities concerned to take emergency initiatives in this regard to ease their livelihood.
Contacted, Bangladesh Ambassador to Malaysia Mohammad Shahidul Islam said the government has been informed about the situation.
“Services are being provided through a hotline round the clock. And whoever calls to the hotline is given advice. None of Bangladeshis has been infected with coronavirus yet,” he added.
Meanwhile, A Bangladeshi company distributed food items among about 2,500 Bangladeshi immigrants in Johor Bahru Tempat area for last two days.
Bangladesh Press Club of Malaysia, led by its president Monir Bin Azad, also distributed foods among journalists.
An advice center was also opened where Bangladeshi doctors will provide emergency prescription. The temporary center will remain open till April 30, our Malaysia correspondent said quoting the organisers.
