Khancha, a Bangladeshi film, was recently screened in Nigeria for the first time at the Second Asian Film Festival organised by Korean Cultural Centre, Abuja, reports The Daily Observer. Khancha is a 2017 Bangladeshi drama film directed by Akram Khan. It was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.

As British colonial rule ends in 1947, a Brahmin family decides to move from the newly formed Dominion of Pakistan to the Dominion of India.
Directed by Akram Khan and a film of the Impress Telefilms Limited, Khancha was released in 2017. Drawn from the short story of Hasan Azizul Huq, a noted Bangladeshi writer, the film revolves around the Partition of India in 1947.
Jaya Ahsan, Azad Abul Kalam, Mamunur Rashid Chadni and Arman Pervej have played the main characters.
All expatriate Bangladeshi nationals, including film-lovers, were invited to watch the film at the festival where a total of 10 countries like Iran, South Korea, China, Malaysia and Japan are participating.
Khancha was selected as Bangladesh’s entry into the Best Foreign Language Film Category at the 2018-Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.
