Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is going to form a party in a new name with a whole bunch of new and different objectives. The activities of the new party, named Welfare or Justice Party, will be completely political. Shah Abdul Hannan, one of Jamaat’s advisors, has suggested that a new party may be formed within the next few months. The leaders of the party have also suggested the same plan. In this case, the new and old teams will have different leaderships.
Jamaat plans to form a new party, fearing that the party will be nonoperational due to its stand in post-liberation period of Bangladesh. A meeting was held at the party’s central majlis regarding formation of this new party. Jamaatâs advisor, Shah Abdul Hannan gave hints that the new party shall be formed being inspired by Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.
Recently, Jamaat is also facing challenges due to the resignation of the party’s central leader, Barrister Abdul Razzaq, expulsion of Mujibur Rahman Manzoor. Beside these, Jamaat is also under pressure as they have decided to form a new party.
Adviser Shah Abdul Hannan said that they have no plan to seek apology for the party’s role in the war of liberation.
On the other hand, though the party has been declared banned, Jamaat did not stop its political activities. The party is secretly conducting its organizational activities.
