DOT Desk: The Information Ministry issued show cause notices to two cable operators for airing Bangladeshi advertisements in foreign channels, reports The Daily Star. It said they are violating subsection-19 (13) of Cable Television Network Act, 2006 by airing advertisements of local product on foreign channels. Earlier, the ministry issued several notices urging all cable operators of the country to stop airing Bangladeshi advertisements in foreign channels. Besides, a platform of electronic media called for stopping the “illegal usage” of the downlink — the transmission of a signal from a satellite to a receiving station. This practice has been affecting sustainability of Bangladeshi private channels and the media industry, they said.
It has been hampering revenue of private channels of Bangladesh, the platform added.
