‘Do not come any closer, it is dangerous. You should be careful being here. I am okay, I have been doing this job for the last seven years. I am no longer afraid of the flame but it’s always boiling hot here. The truth is, when you need to work, you have no option of liking or disliking it. After all, I am the only brother of my three sisters. When my youngest sister was born I gave my only shirt to hold her. I have two schoolgoing younger sisters, Riya and Ritu. They are my world. When I go home they always show me their classwork copies. I don’t understand anything, but I used to kiss the pages with their handwriting. I want them to be educated. Last month I started working extra hours because my sisters have to go for private tuition now. At night the little one usually massages my hand and if I ask her why she is doing it, she always says, “Because I love you.” But I never say anything. I do not like to show love.’
