Germany and Bangladesh inked an agreement at Dhaka’s Economic Relations Division (ERD) yesterday regarding Germany’s provision of 20 crore Euro (Tk1800cr) to Bangladesh for implementing projects in six different sectors, including water and fuel. Out of the 20 crore Euro, 17.3 will be provided as loan for projects of renewable energy, climate change, textile and education-research while 2.8 crore Euro will be given as grants.
On behalf of the two governments, ERD Secretary Monowar Ahmed and German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz signed the deals, reports Banglanews24. A fund of Taka 15.6 crore will be spent on renewable energy and energy sector, Taka 2.6 crore will be utilized for the Climate change-adapted development programme, Taka 75 lakh has been allotted for textile sector, 45 lakh for water resources management in Dhaka, 4 lakh for Sundarbans management planning and 2 lakh in study and research.
Peter Fahrenholtz remarked that emphasis should be put on the six sectors especially on Sundarbans as there is no alternative to renewable energy to safeguard the environment and nature of Bangladesh.
