First Aviation and Aerospace University to commence activities in 2020

The first of its kind in Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU) is reportedly expected to commence academic activities by January 2020. The university shall be located at the Lalmonirhat Airport, which had been left abandoned in the duration of the Second World War.
On the 28th of February of this year, the national parliament passed the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University Bill 2019, reports The Observerbd.
On Thursday, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed visited the site to set up the university and attend a meeting there. The Minister was accompanied by Jatiya Party Chairman and lawmaker from Lalmonirhat -3 Golam Mohammad Kader, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat and other high-ranking officials.
Aircraft maintenance and repairing organization (MRO) shall also be available on the campus. This initiative to set up this educational institution for higher education comes in effort to promote and upgrade the aeronautical and aerospace studies in the country.
The Social Welfare Minister, whilst speaking to the press provided that the main campus of the proposed university will be set up in Lalmonirhat, while a branch will be at Ashkona in the capital.
He also stated that, “In view of making Lalmonirhat Airport operational, three flights a week will be operated from the airport by next December. The Bangladesh Air force has been assigned responsibility in this regard,”
Official activities of the university began officially through the appointment of its Vice Chancellor (VC), Pro- Vice Chancellor, Treasurers and other officials belonging to high positions. According to the Minister, the university’s undergraduate (honors) and postgraduate level courses are likely to begin from January, 2020. The government in the initial stages has planned to set up seven faculties, 37 departments and four institutes.
