At a press briefing held at the party’s Banani 8More on Page 7, Col
(From Page 8) headquarters in the capital, the JP Chairman also urged the party men to remain united for the upcoming general election, adding that the party will most certainly participate.
The national election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
The former military dictator said that no-one will be able to ‘suppress him’.
“We will move ahead,” Ershad told his supporters in front of his Banani office.
“I am old now but they will not let me get treatment or go outside [the country]. I do not fear death,” he said, without naming anyone.
Ershad is a special envoy to the prime minister while his party is the current opposition in Parliament. His wife is the leader of the opposition.
“We have participated in all the elections and will take part this time, too,” he said in a short speech from his car. “Everything depends on you [the supporters]. Promise me that you will not leave the party.”
