Seeking the personal involvement of UK’s new secretary of States for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Dominic Raab, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. AK Abdul Momen pursues UK’s international governorship to ensure the primary and fortified return of the Rohingyas formally and securely to their homeland in Rakhine State in Myanmar, reports UNB. Informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday in a press release. In context, nearly 1.2 million Rohingyas are living here in Bangladesh at present, after migrating here due to Myanmar’s violent hostility against the mainly Muslim minority in late August in 2017. Myanmar refused to accept Rohingy as its citizens although they have been ling in that state for generations. Although Myanmar denies the allegation, Rohingyas and the Human rights organizations accused the Myanmar military and their local associates for killing, shooting, raping, torturing and as well as looting. Even the former top UN human rights official labeled Myanmar’s act against Rohingyas as ‘Textbook example of ethnic cleansing’. Taking the bilateral bonding to the next level, Dhaka and Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar, signed a settlement to repatriate the Rohingyas , still there has been no noticeable progress yet. In a congratulatory note to the First Secretary of State of UK, Raab, Dr Momen mentioned the interrelation of Bangladesh with UK and the persisting friendship and understanding between Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the then Conservative Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath. He also urged to improve the relationship between them to an effective new level with expanding partnership in trade, investment, development and universal peace and security. It is to be noted that, UK is the third largest export destination of Bangladesh. In the 2017-2018 fiscal year, Bangladesh exported goods worth $ 3,989.12 million to the UK.
