Kabir Humayun: At least seven people were killed and several others injured when a bus rammed a human haulier, locally known as laguna, in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar yesterday morning.
The identities of the dead and injured victims, passengers of the laguna, could not be known immediately.
Md Alamgir Hossain, in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Station, said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Starline Paribahan’ hit a laguna in Baraitali Rastarmatha area around 11:45am.
No human hauliers, including Laguna, will not be allowed on the streets of the capital as the modified vehicles are posing threats to commuters, as mostly underage drivers — with no licence — keep taking extra passengers, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia declared on September 4.
The High Court, in January last year, imposed a total ban on plying of improvised motorised three-wheelers on highways.
