142 people were detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from a “casino” operated by member of the ruling party, Awami League’s (AL) youth wing Jubo league, in Dhaka’s Fakirerpool area yesterday afternoon, reports Jagonews24.
The Prime Minister and Awami League President, Sheikh Hasina had previously on Saturday given a strong warning to the Jubo League in the party’s parliamentary meeting; pointing out the Jubo League South President, Ismail Chowdhury saying, “He created a cadre of extortionist forces in Dhaka and is in control of everything. I don’t need condone these activities in my organization.”
Several Awami League central leaders have stated that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had informed the Prime Minister in a report that various elicit activities were being carried out in the capital. Sheikh Hasina was informed of at least 100 casinos are under the supervision of Jubo League. She expressed anger in the information revealed in the report.
Additionally Sheikh Hasina has said that she has all the details of these activities and has ordered that immediate action be taken against those concerned.
According to the Executive Magistrate of RAB, Sarwoer Alam, a drive of the force’s mobile court was conducted at the Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club around 5:30 pm
The Director (legal and media) of RAB, Sarwar- Bin-Kashem provided that a large amount of money, foreign liquor as well as some casino boards were seized from the club.
He added that another team of the RAB arrested, Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan, Organising Secretary of Dhaka (south) city unit of Jubo League, who is apparently the club president, from his residence in Gulshan.
