In the theory of Charles Darwin, humans have evolved over billion of year. As, we evolved many of the survival features disappeared. That still remains in many of our Mammal cousins. These features also left traces in our body structures. Some still have them and some simply lost it for years of no use. But most of these doesn’t make one stronger than other. We lost them since, they are no use our lifestyle in the first place. These amazing facts about our body makes it a kind of Natural History Museum.
The Vestigial Muscle in Forearm
First place your hand palm-side up on a table. Then simply touch your pinky and thumb together, and bend your inward. Big chance, you will see a raised band about the middle of your wrist. It is even common to miss one in one of your hand. You are among 15%. This forelimb muscle helped with the clawing tree or digging holes. That is why it longer on mammal species such as Lemur and shortens for prime-apes.
Palmar Grasp Reflex
It is a strong gripping reflex like monkeys grabbing onto branches. Only can be seen in young infants. Both on their palms and feet. Few of them observed so strong, they could support their whole body with two tiny arms.
Three Auricularis Muscles
These are also such leftover muscles from our evolution. Many of our mammal relatives, especially nocturnal ones use these to track sounds by pointing their ears to its direction. You probably have least one friend, who can move their ears, unless you are the one. Scientist also have observed remanence of its censoring ability in many. Their ears actually subconsciously moved a little to certain sets of sounds.
