Young volunteers at work

There is a quote that says, “Almost everything that is great has been done by the youth.” In some old movies it is seen that children are selling lemonade in hot summer days beside the road. These children earn pocket money by providing cold lemonade to the thirsty pedestrians. While this may seem as an act of kindness, today’s youth are doing much more than just setting up lemonade stands by the street.
“Working with disabled children was a privilege for me,” said Tapojit Debnath, a student of Mastermind school. He added, “We were exposed to the actual sufferings of the children out there. Some of them had cancer. While assisting them, I realized how much we owe them their lives are not up to our state.” Ridwana Tasnim, another student of Mastermind, also recalled a similar incident, “It was a unique experience to interact with patients and get to know about their struggles. I never thought I would be able to bring smiles on the faces of those children who were battling cancer.” Nowadays, more and more students are engaging in volunteer works and acquiring different experiences through activities.
Moreover, there are many foundations such as Jaago and Durnibar that are seeking young volunteers to work on various projects. In one of the projects of Durnibar, Anika Tahsin, a volunteer, has mentioned that it was the first time she got so close to the waste around us. She said, “It is incredible how much we are polluting our surroundings every day.” Azman Ali, another volunteer of Durnibar said, “We should all remind ourselves that it is our first and foremost duty to promote good hygiene practice through our activity and make others more aware of their surroundings.”
Jaago foundation has been recruiting young volunteers to help the underprivileged children. Volunteers who have had experience in education and research can help these children. In addition to this, volunteers can work along with local teachers to develop the ability of students to learn. Competent volunteers can carry out workshops on eclectic topics like family life and hygiene. Therefore, it is evident that young people are contributing a lot to the welfare of the society these days.
