A writ petition was filed today with the High Court seeking directives on the government to stop operation of national adverts in international channels. Last Wednesday Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the writ. Information Secretary, Commerce Secretary, Chairman of the Board Revenue, Bangladesh Bank Governer, BTRC’s Chairman, BTV’s Director General and Police Inspector General has been made defendant of the writ. Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan says, in 2006 sub-section 13 of Section 19 of Bangladesh Cable Television Network Act has posed restrictions on advertising locally made advertisements on foreign TV channels. But still advertisements have been promoted in International TV channels. Illegally companies has been advertising products in international TV channels and importing these products abroad.
