A writ has been filed with the High Court to challenge the order that requires political parties to have 33% women participants in committees of all levels. Section – (RPO) 90 (Kha). (1)(Kha)(A) of the Representation of the People Order, requires all new political parties to fulfil this condition and all existing political parties to fulfill it by the year 2020.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Congress, a new political party and Supreme Court Advocate Eyarul Islam filed the writ on Wednesday. The writ was filed against the secretary of the Law and Justice Division and Chief Election Commissioner.
A bench consisting of Justice Md. Kamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Rajik Al Jalil may conduct a hearing for this writ on March 20.
The writ says, the general public and especially the women of the nation are extremely unwilling to join politics. Therefore it is impossible for the political parties to have 33% women in all their committees. It is also an impediment in the registration of new political parties.
