Our Time Desk

India is a country, which has experienced severe rape cases in the recent past. Severe sexual assaults are still going on and there seems no chance to decrease. Rather the scene is getting worse day by day, but no remedial issue can put a barrier to that. The barrier upheaval was raised by women in Mumbai by a great mass uprising, but still now, not only Indian women but also tourists and foreigners are getting sexually harrassed in different cities of India. Tourist spots are not even excluded from the worst case scenerios.
The most important part of a women’s life to get a better lifestyle and hygiene is to ensure a safe and clean sanitation. As a result, the sanitations in public, especially regarded as public toilets for women must ensure a safe and clean environment for them.
But many a time, these places are regarded as the worst places for the women to lose their very own sanity and their precious bearings. Due to this, most of the women in the country are suffering from different mental barracades which is leading them to different health issues. Kidney stones, prostrate cancers, bladder inflammations etc. are the severe health issues.
An Indian female writer named Indu Harikumar noted that, like a traditionally good Indian woman, she learnt to control her bladder. In India there are more than over 10,000 public toilets, which maybe free or pay-per-use toilets, a very few of them have proper sanitation. Most of them goes beyond the level of sanitation, let along a maintaining hygiene.
From the year 2011 upto now, there had been many Right to Pee campaigns organised by the Indian women and mostly held in the city of Mumbai. In December 2014, The Mumbai High Court ordered to provide different safe, clean and permanantly hygenic toilets in the city. Even the local government of Mumbai promised that they will donate 50 million RS. for ensuring sanitary latrines for women in the city.
In the campaigns, the experts mainly denoted that, the fundings or the spaces arent the main issues, rather gender inequality and disrespectful behavior of both men and women over this is their biggest obstacle.
Photographer Madhu Reddy pointed out that, In restaurents and big city malls, the women get pretty much better offers and options to sanitation. But the problem persists for the women in streets. The RTP brings in 33 NGOs to work for the betterment of this. Women face massive humiliation due to the campaigns not only from the opposite sex but also from the women.
Keeping the Urban regional affair aside, if we look back to the rural regions, women sanitation has rather a very irresponsible case scenerio. When the time shifts at night, the situation gets worse. It had been seen from case study that women of a certain village do not go out to get their job done, for the fear of the attack of elephants. In India, several girls drop out of their government high schools and colleges during their adolescent time due to the lack of proper sanitation, which is a huge issue at present.
It is a quintessential thing to be considered that, the women in India must have a proper right to sanitation and this half of the country’s workforce must face no more humiliation and sexual assault in the near future. The people there must change their mentality and views to respect women properly. Otherwise, strict stipends must be ensured and must be implemented.
