Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, Political Analyst: The country’s politics is now in the court of the government and it will be a mistake to turn it into a one-horse-race.
Most of the political parties demand army deployment for the sake of a free, fair and impartial election. It is not necessary to give magistracy power to the army. But the possibility of fair elections increases manifold if the army is accompanied by the magistrates.
Free and fair election is a must for the sake of good governance. Incidents of enforced disappearence and implicating in lawsuit have become commonplace in the country, these are never a good omen. A free, fair and inclusive election is expected for the countrymen.
The more the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be liberal to resolve the electoral crisis, the more she will gain from it. She should follow in Bangabandhu’s footsteps. Now she has surpassed Bangabandhu in politics. But she is still inferior to Bangabandhu in one particular aspect.
Bangabandhu used to send money to Shah Aziz. He also went to Sylhet to drop by Fazlul Quader Chowdhury. This is called liberality and generosity.
Sheikh Hasina is our Prime Minister. She must rise above all narrow-mindedness. She will gain more if she takrs a lead in resolving political crisis and invites BNP again. To me, the 11th parliamentary elections will be good. Incidents of fake vote will come down. The Election Commission must disclose the affidavits of all the contestants and the income tax returns as well. The commission must give a try to stop the lavish use of money during elections.
