Manufacturers
Artists make things because making is special for human beings. We as human beings are manufacturers. Let us go back to the dawn of psychologically modern human being which occurred 30,000 years ago. This beginning of modern humans was inaugurated by this explosion of making, practices of tool making, pictorial practices, linguistic practices and clothing. Artists make things to unveil the fact that humans are makers. So works of arts are strange tools because they, in their strangeness are meant to exhibit the place that tools and technology have in our lives.
The Real Question
When scientists or cognative scientists and philosophers think about art they think of it as some kind of phenomenon to put under glass and explain. On the contrary art is actually its own research practice, it is itself a way of trying to understand and unveil mysteries regarding the world and ourselves. So the question should be what does the fact that art matters so much tell us about ourselves? Rather than the object of our investigation, we should look at art as our collaborator
Art and Philosophy
So the art situation in other words becomes an opportunity of putting ones own perceptual consciousness or other aspects of the definition of consciousness and understanding sort of inquiries for oneself. So if what has been said above is true, art really is paradigmatically philosophical. Art and philosophy both are in the business of unveiling our true nature to ourselves and in doing that it I supplying us with resources to change.
