Staff Reporter : Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq has remarked that punishing war criminals with anything less than a death sentence is hypocrisy. He said, “If they are proven innocent, they should be acquitted of all charges and if they are found guilty, they should be given death sentences.”
He talked about this issue during the yearly general conference of the ‘Anubhob Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited’ on Friday. The organizers of the conference stated that the ‘Co-operative Society’ was created to ensure the social and financial security of the Hindu Community.
He surmised, “I have said time and again – the lowest punishment for criminals should be death penalty. Life imprisonment for them is nothing but hypocrisy.” He also said that he is being threatened by SMS, letters and more. However, he does not fear death.
The Supreme Court has summoned two ministers to court, one of which is AKM Mozammel Huq himself, for their comments about a war crime case.
