DOT Desk: The US wants to see violence-free and fair peaceful elections in Bangladesh, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday, reports TBS.
“The delegation told us that they have not come to encourage any party. They want violence-free, peaceful elections in Bangladesh. They have come to Dhaka to discuss that,” he told reporters after his meeting with the visiting US delegation led by US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya yesterday. “US is very happy with the way Bangladesh is moving forward, the way Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is moving the country forward. The delegation expressed great satisfaction,” he added.
The home minister said the delegation is satisfied to see the peaceful gathering of two major political parties yesterday.
He said the delegation expressed concerns regarding human trafficking centred around the Rohingya refugees. “Bangladesh was in tier three to prevent human trafficking. Bangladesh has improved in the prevention of human trafficking and has risen to tier two in the judgment of the United States.
