Government’s campaign to collect seasonal Boro rice from the mill owners, is failing. Even after threatening to revoke mill-licenses for next 4 years and, increasing the time duration for making deals. Still, mill owners are not properly responding to the government’s call, in order to dodge obvious losses.

Since, mill-owners themselves has to buy Boro rice at 37 taka rate from the market. While, government is willing to pay only 34 taka for the same rice. Such, huge losses are discouraging the mill-owners for the cause, says Jamalpur rice-mill owner Malik Md. Kaiyum.

But statistic report warns of 6 lacs tons of rice-shortage this year, due to calamities. Therefore, the government is thinking about exporting rice. Initiations had been made to increase the government to government MOU deal’s duration. A letter has been sent to the Bangladeshi Ambassador in Vietnam, confirms Ministry of Food.
