Uber has gained its popularity as the world’s largest on-demand ride-sharing company. It now is building its milestones in changing the transportation system in Dhaka that is burdened with over 15 millions of people. The head of central operation of Uber in the southern region Pradeep Parameswaran claimed this at a press conference in a city hotel on Sunday while marking Uber’s one year journey in Dhaka. According to Pradeep, “Dhaka presented us with a challenge of transforming the transportation landscape and creating alternatives to a city burdened with a growing population with cars on its roads.” The fact that most of the four wheelers carry only one passenger, is a major challenge for the traffic system in Dhaka.Uber in Dhaka is trying to tap the unutilized assets, while creating more opportunities of livelihood than any other sector. Dhaka with only 15 kilometre per hour was reported the slowest moving traffic in the world. If this keeps continuing, traffic speed will come down to 5 km per hour by 2020 – reports Prothom Alo.When it comes to security in Dhaka city, it is a shared responsibility. Although Uber has plans to launch an exclusive safety feature which connects to the government control room where fire service, ambulances, police and government agents can be reached in case of emergencies.Uber processed 1.5 million ride sharing requests in November. Also, a new 200,000 people availed their services in the month. Uber, on 22 November 2016 launched its reliable and affordable rides at the push of a button.
