Krishi Shomprosharon Council very much concerned about the severity of the Blast disease in the rice paddies. The traditional ways are failing to prevent it. BRRI estimated, over 1% of the seasonal Ropa Rice will be affected in the South-East region of the country. The number is over 5 thousand hector rice fields. The council and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury urged the researchers for a solution.
Field Wing Chairman of the Council Chaitannya Kumar Das informed this and said, this is a common disease. But this year’s picture is extraordinary. They are bringing in farmers under awareness campaign and will act in the fields as soon as they receive suggestions from the experts.
Currently, BRRI is expecting drastic change in weather and unplanned over fertilizing of Urea might have caused this, said BRRI Head Researcher Dr. Tahmid Hossain Ansari to Amader Orthoneeti. Also, the drastic environmental imbalances of high heat in the morning and cold breeze at night, might have accelerated the spreading of Blast disease.
