Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Former Chairman, National Human Rights Commission : Quota reformation movement leader Nurul Haque Nur and others who have been injured must get access to proper medical treatment. It has been noticed that the Law Ministry, the Health Ministry, the National Human Rights Commission are giving importance in taking responsibility for those injured. No stones should be left unturned in the matter of treatment.
Every person has the right to express their opinion. This is their constitutional right. Someone might also disagree with my point of view. Their right to express disagreement is also a part of freedom of speech. Nevertheless, if a viewpoint goes against the interests of the majority of the population or is the cause of unrest in society, such a viewpoint could be restricted by the state. But such a decision should be taken only for the benefit of all and through consensus.
It is not unusual for students to protest. The authorities concerned will analyze the legitimacy of the protest. But if protesters are assaulted, deprived treatment, it is a clear violation of human rights.
Whenever a student or person is injured, they require medical attention. So if government medical facilities and even private ones refuse to provide treatment, what can be more unfortunate for the country? This proves that the people’s freedom is in doubt.
