Truly yours THE US ELECTIONS: This time it’s historically interesting
Mohammad Ali Sattar
In modern times it was President Ronald Reagan who surprised many by winning the white house race. Not only did he create a stir in US and world politics, he created further excitement by returning to the president’s office for the scone term as well. It was surprising because the world thought Americans shocked the planet by picking a B grader as the President of the A rated country. But Reagan came in at hard times of US government. It was the time of a strong Soviet Union. The Soviet leaders gave him hard times. It was a supreme era of cold war. The ‘star wars’ was in motion.
Reagan had managed nicely. The Hollywood actor was not only stylish who carried peculiar closed teeth grin he made sure that Americans do not tail off in image. He tried to keep the slate clean. He understood that American interests were largely at stake. Critics of those times were harsh on him and cursed the US political character as weird. However, I thought Americans were not entirely wrong picking Ronny as the president.
After that none of the presidents were above average. In fact the quality of US presidential candidates have been dwindling. Down the line George W Bush came in to tell the world that US could be very harsh and oppressive in dealing with its enemies. The wars in West Asian soils bears testimony to Bush’s guile mind. The turmoil in the Middle Eastern states is a creation of the Bush family. In fact US was given the bad name by the Bush family.
Obama was a quiet version of the otherwise hostile presidents of the US. The residents of White House were naturally thought to be harsh in mind. Barrack Obama made it historically significant because he was the first colored president of the US. Democrats made it a point in American politics that they would not mind in having first timers in their list.
This time round, it is not only the Democrats who are making a big difference in US election race by choosing a woman presidential candidate , it is the Republicans also surprising the world by picking Donald Trump as its presidential choice. While Hillary is a normal option, Trump happens to be a bundle of confusion and fear. As a woman candidate Hillary would be good choice and a less risky experiment for the White House. She is a seasoned person for the job. Bill Sanders gave up knowing well that he doesn’t stand a chance to be there. He didn’t look like a President. Hillary does.
For Donald Trump this venture is likely to end up in mess. He has been feared by almost all stakeholders. Even before the elections the world leaders are somewhat apprehensive about his future actions. All along Donald Trump has variously been described as “dangerous,” “fraud,” “unhinged,” “racist,” “mentally unbalanced” and “outright nuts.” As days are passing by and US approaches the election times Donald Trump is losing ground. Gradually, his close mates are drifting apart. They all may have realized by now, or that’s what they think, that Trump will be a bad choice and is a loser. Hillary is gaining ground everyday and Democrats are upbeat. Republicans may have given up the race already. So it’s been quite a historical race – Hillary as a women candidate from the Democrats and Trump as fearsome figure from the Republicans. A fight between the beauty and beast, one quipped.
