The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen Returns

March 18 was like any other day, except, it wasn’t. Hundreds of thousands of people eagerly sat in front of their browsers for the release of the much anticipated second season of Marvel Entertainment’s “Daredevil.” With the first season of the show, sensational Netflix cemented their status as a frontrunner network. Seldom has a superhero-based television series been done with such taste and vigor as was done with Daredevil. With all the brilliance of the first season still fresh on people’s minds, the expectations were high for the second season. And boy, did it deliver!
The second season of “Daredevil” throws us back to where we left off, right in the dark and crime-filled heart of Hell’s kitchen. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) continue their lives fighting in the courtroom against the injustice faced by the common people. Matt’s secret nighttime exploits as the vigilante Daredevil keeps the newspaper headlines busy. With the fall of Wilson Fisk, Hell’s Kitchen is “ripe for the taking” and no crime syndicate, starting from Irish mafia to the Mexican Cartel, is willing to sit back and wait for someone else to claim it. Amidst all this chaos however, a new threat looms.
Some say it’s an army while others say it’s just one man. Needless to say, an impression that things would be getting very messy is let on from the get-go.
The positives from the first season carry on into this one as well. The acting is phenomenal as always. Charlie Cox’s Dardevil and his struggles with his inner morals could not be played better. Deborah Ann Woll continues showing people how a female lead is supposed to be played and Elden Henson perfectly captures Foggy Nelson’s charm and tenacity. However, it was Jon Bernthal, who stole the show with his portrayal of the infamous Frank Castle, also known as “The Punisher.” Watching him play the role would convince you that much like Hugh Jackman with Wolverine; he was born to play this role.
All in all this season worked on rising from the foundation that was laid by the first season. Many themes of the Daredevil world are explored and the complexity of the story can leave you gasping for breath due to the heaps of information coming your way.
By the end of the season, you’re left wanting more. And if anything, that proves how good a show is. Overall, this season further fortifies Daredevil’s “must watch” status. Do not take this article’s word for it though. Just go and watch it!
