Sudden floods in the 8 districts and major rice supplying areas, have reduced the estimated production by 15 lac tons. Ministry of Health already called for immediate 50 thousand tons rice import. Total of 6 lacs tons paddies and 8 lacs processed rice will be imported, in the Boro season. But not everyone taking this as simple. Some criticizing this to be a planned skim by some higher authorities for personal interest.

Health Minister Md. Kamrul Islam said, certain ill syndicates are using such bad times to make the rice market unstable. This big import this year, aims to break the influence of such syndicates and keep the market price at a reasonable rate. Stocks may be lower than before. But Boro harvests are coming to equalize the situation. Health Administrations General Director Badrul Hasan agreed to these as well.
