Buriganga is regaining its radiance of life. Stench & black gooey waters are clearing out slowly. Tides are more observable. Schools of fishes are gathering as well. Only stopping of 30% chemical-waste dumping by closing the Hajaribag tanneries, has made great difference. Complete implementation of banning all sorts of waste-dumping on the river will surely bring permanent results, commented BIWT Chairman Commodore M Mozammel Haque. Many researchers, & specially the locals living by the riverside, are very glad about this progress. More boats are floating on the river. Some even started fishing with rods. The government has taken project of rejuvenating 3 rivers around the capital. 50km walkway has been completed. Eco parks, varieties of entertainment centers, bench, food-court & public toilets etc. will be established. In order to make the lives of riversides more vibrant.
