Abrar Hussain: Law enforcers have arrested four more people for allegedly spreading ‘rumors’ on social media to ‘create unrest’.
Social Media Monitoring and Cyber Security Division of Dhaka metropolitan Police arrested Mahbubur Rahman Arman, 30, Alamgir Hossein, 27, and Saidul Islam, 31, between 8:00 pm and 11:30 pm Sunday from different parts of Dhaka.
Meanwhile, law enforcers yesterday arrested Shahed Akhther under the ICT act for allegedly spreading ‘rumors’ on social media in a case filed under Rupnagar Police Station, reports The Daily Star.
Najmul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Cyber Security Division told The Daily Star that the arrestees were trying to turn the ongoing protest violent by sharing various content, posts and going live on Facebook.
All the arrestees are online activists.
The ADC said adding that his department would continue its operation against the people responsible behind the spread of rumors.
Among the arrestees, Mahbubur Rahman Arman alias Cyber Mahbub identified himself as a cyber analyst. The two other arrestees were using their personal Facebook IDs for spreading ‘rumors’.
