Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj remote area Nunertek, Raghunara Char. In the rainy season, the grazing Meghna River homesteads over 200 families. After losing their home there is no exact address for these people to live. Raghunara Char area beside Meghna River is facing the breakdown of every year. The breakdown’s main reason is due to illegal sand extractions by the help of dredger. Due to sand evacuation, this area is going to run away every single day. In this year’s rainy season, about one and a half kilometers of Raghunara Char has become confined to the river bed. Over 200 families have lost lands and their birthplace. There is no government initiative in their rehabilitation. Abdur Rahim Ilias and Abul Kasem of Raghunara Char area said, “Due to this every year hundreds of family like us lost their house.” In this regard, the President of Sonargaon branch of Bangladesh Human Rights Organization Law and Justice Foundation Md. Habib Master said that we have visited the area. This year, a large part of the area was ablaze in the Meghna River. 200 families have lost their soil. If the illegal evacuation of sand is not stopped, soon the area of Raghunara will be completely destroyed.
