Hira, from Barisal : A school girl named Fatema Aktar Omi was kept chained for a month and tortured inhumanely in Barisal. She is 15 years of age and an SSC examinee.
She was rescued by the police last Thursday night. 2 people have been arrested in suspicion of being connected to this crime. She is the daughter of Rashed Hauladar, an expatriate living in Saudi Arab. Her family lives in the Chowmuhani Village.
Omi informs, she had eloped with Mannan Sharif’s son, Ruhul Amin of the Borakotha village on January 17. Her mother, Parvin Begum filed a case due to this incident and the police arrested Omi and Ruhul Amin. Omi was then given back to her mother by the court. Since then, she has been kept chained at her maternal aunt’s house, where she was tortured every day for almost a month. She had cautiously called the OC of Ujirpur Police Station from a neighbor’s phone last Thursday and begged to be rescued.
OC Nurul Islam PPM had taken two of his sub-inspectors and raided the house of Omi’s uncle and found Omi with her hands and feet chained. Her aunt, Ruma Begum, had run away, but her mother and aunt’s friend Sohel Gomosta were captured. After getting rescued, Omi filed a case with the Ujirpur Station as plaintiff.
