Countrywide flood condition is improving. But this has also rose the risk of serious river erosion in some areas. This include wide areas of Kurigram, Bagura, Rajbari & Shariatpur districts.
Pinpointed by the satellite report of Water Resource Ministry’s trustee research insititute Center for Environmental & Geography Information Services (CEGIS ). This was announced at the ‘Local Level River Erosion Risk, Warning, Awareness, Promotion & To-Do’ titled discussion seminar at the BRAC center yesterday. Department Of Disaster Management, CEGIS & BRAC jointly arranged this event. Delegates from all these institutions & many prominent other involved were invited in the seminar. BRAC Disaster Management & Climate Change Movement Director said, the regarding meteorology institutes have developed a lot in Bangladesh. But, if they can’t use this modern technology for the advantage of the general people, these will lose the core purpose. Therefore, the institutions involved jointly working in the awareness movements in these 4 districts at risk. CEGIS Sub-Executive Director Dr. Mominul Haq Sarker said, people may lose their houses or belongings in the cyclone. But the river erosion takes away their very land. Therefore, they should focus more on this type of calamity. BRAC DMCC has been working with the aid of CEGIS for this event-tilted movement since 2016. In this consecutive movement, they arranged this discussion seminar for strategizing ways of promoting awareness in 8 districts, 16 upazillas & 13 risky areas this year.
