Regular checkposts to be set up in full-swing: DMP
DOT Desk: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam today asked for setting up temporary checkposts in full swing along with permanent checkposts in Dhaka metropolitan areas as it helps combat crimes in many ways, reports Daily Observer. He came up with this directive at the Monthly Crime Review Meeting of DMP at Rajarbagh Police Lines here. Instructing to install high-powered Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the flyovers, the DMP commissioner said technology could be used to prevent theft of vehicles, including cars and motorcycles. “Software such as Crime Data Management System (CDMS) and Suspect Identification and Verification System (SIVS) must be made updated, through which a list of thieves and snatchers would be brought under the law,” he added. He observed that thefts of vehicles would actually be greatly reduced under car and motorcycle tracking systems.
The DMP commissioner urged police to do scientific research using technology and not to act like a nonprofessional.
On the urgency of creating mass-awareness against rape and repression on women, Islam said that awareness rallies could be held in presence of senior police officers and local dignitaries in each beat of the police stations.
“In these gatherings, women need to know about their problems and take into account their suggestions on what to do about resolving their problems,” he mentioned.
Terming drug abuse a root of crimes, including women repression and snatching, the commissioner said the problem could not be solved by recovering only a large quantity of narcotics substances.
“If we can identify drug addicts and bring them back from drug addiction, the number of drug addicts will decrease ultimately,” he observed.
Expressing satisfaction over filing GD (general diary) and case monitoring, the commissioner said that in case of GD and cases in the police stations, more than 95 per cent people have expressed their satisfaction.
“It’s a good thing indeed . . . We need to ensure better service in this connection,” the DMP commissioner added.
Senior police officials of DMP’s different divisions, among others, were also present at the meeting, said a press release.
