Panicking Dhaka North Residents
Written by: Eshan Maitra
It had rained 2 days ago in Pallabi, Mirpur. But the roads are still clogged-up by the filthy rain waters mixed with sewers & uncleaned drainage wastes. It isn’t even rainy season yet. Hence, the people of Dhaka North are panicking thinking about what might occur during the heavy-rains of the rainy season. Several canals had been illegally possessed and filled in these areas, since 2011. Hence, it has become difficult for the extraction rain water from the city roads. The local leaders had brought up this issue several times in the parliament, for the attention of the responsible ministers. But authorities failed to take any proper step. Dhaka WASA is also claims of being blocked from cleaning the wastes stuck in such possessed canals.
On the other hand, the city authorities are assuring that, their new drainage systems and old drains cleaning projects, are at a near end. Both the City Corporation and WASA is preparing to the tackle the Rainy Season adversities together.
Though, the residents are not quite convinced, based on their past experiences with these authorities.
