Kabir Humayun: Quota reformists yesterday brought out a rally on Dhaka University campus demanding publication of the gazette on quota reform as soon as possible.
The reformists brought out the rally from the DU Central Library around 10:30am and went through different areas of the campus before ending the rally at Raju sculpture, reports The Daily Star.
“We did not want abolishment of quota system, we demanded reform. PM herself announced its abolishment at the parliament,” said Nurul Haq Nur, joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, the platform spearheading the quota-reform movement.
If the PM wants, she can abolish the quota system but if the government wants to reform, it should be done in light of the five-point demand placed by quota reformists, he added.
On Tuesday, the quota reformists had demanded the government to publish the gazette on quota-reform before the issuance of the circular of 40th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations.
Paying no heed to the demand, the government issued circular for the 40th BCS examination on the day.
