President M Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked police to perform their duties responsibly and neutrally for ensuring security in the society, reports Bss.”Perform duty neutrally upholding democratic values and human rights”, the President told senior police officers while addressing a meeting at Bangabhaban marking the Police Week 2018.The President urged police personnel to serve the country and its people with patriotism, honesty and sincerity, while keeping the spirit of the Liberation War.He emphasized that the ‘rule of law’ is vital for a democratic society. “People usually go to your door when they fall into trouble, so you have to be more cordial so that each service-seeker can get uninterruptedly service from you”, he said.Referring to the police force’s outstanding performance in combating militancy and terrorism that helped restore the peace of civic life, the President said that the Bangladesh Police also show great professionalism in different United Nations peacekeeping missions alongside maintaining internal security.Abdul Hamid also lauded the performance of female police members in the peacekeeping missions saying the success and glorious role of the police in the international arena has given Bangladesh a unique status. “You must continue your nonstop efforts to uphold this respect achieved abroad”, the President urged the policemen.He said the prime and sacred duty of police is to maintain internal security of the country, the security of people’s life and property, establish the rule of law and prevent terrorism as well as crime from the society.
“Your collective efforts will help make Bangladesh Police as a people- oriented and service-oriented organization by gaining people’s dependency and confidence,” the President added.
