Rajekuzzaman Ratan
Rajekuzzaman Ratan, Central Committee Member, Bangladesher Somajtantrik Dal : The election system in our country has reached to the edge. Disbelieve, mistrust and doubt have become so strong that even the people within a certain party do not want to believe that a fair election will be held under the partisan government.
Some are even heard saying sometimes that they already have won in the elections, only formalities left awaiting the polls result.
Wouldn’t it be normal to grow suspicion over such progression when such words come out of a responsible person’s mouth? How can the way of accepting and rejecting be the same of the one for scrutiny?
We previously saw the elected people coming out as dictators. As a result, the election is now a liability and accountability as well. This is my accountability towards the people who liked me and also towards those who didn’t since my intention came on the people’s interest. As long as there is no responsibility and accountability, democracy won’t be effective.
Once I grab the power, everything is mine. Power is to who has achieved the victory. And those who could not, it is difficult for them to even save their lives. The fear of being defeated surfaces in such a situation. They are being chased by both the greed to win and the fear of losing lives.
They are not driving themselves with responsibility. They think, losing in the election will cost them their business and surroundings. Counter-hegemony calls everything into danger, even the sense of judging.
