DOT Desk: Police Memorial Day, 2019 is being observed across the country, to commemorate the sacrifice of police personnel on the line of duty, reports Dhaka Tribune.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the event by placing floral wreaths before the Police Memorial located at the Police Staff College campus in Mirpur yesterday.
He was followed by Mostafa Kamal Uddin, secretary of Public Security Division under Ministry of Home Affairs, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary, and family members of police personnel who died on the line of duty.
Then special prayers were offered for the departed souls of the police personnel.
At the solemn ceremony, the home minister conferred memorial crests and gifts to family members of 158 brave police personnel, who died while preserving law and order, protecting people and property, and upholding internal security.
Addressing the program, Asaduzzaman said: “Police personnel of Bangladesh have been skillfully performing their duties to uphold the rule of law, with the motto- Discipline, Safety, and Progress.
“A significant number of policemen were killed on the line of duty last year. They were performing their duties with sincerity and devotion. Fueled by the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War, the police force of Bangladesh will continue to support the foundation of a democratic Bangladesh.”
