Bangladesh Police held nationwide rallies to create public awareness against rape and violence against women yesterday.
Rallies against rape and violence against women were organized in more than 6,000 beat policing areas across the country where the police officials sounded stern warning against the rapists.
There are a total of 647 police stations across the country and 6912 beat policing areas under the police stations.
The anti-rape rallies were held in all the beats where people and political activists joined carrying placards and festoons.
People requested the victims from the rallies to lodge complaints with the police stations without fear.
“We have organized the rallies to send out a message that the rapists will not be spared and they must be brought to book,” said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Zone) Sazzadur Rahman.
Police Headquarters Assistant Inspector General (AIG-Media) Md Sohel Rana said: “Anti-rape and anti-violence rallies were held at 10am on Saturday at all beats of the country at the same time in keeping with the health safety rules and maintaining social distance.”
The gatherings were attended by a significant number of women, public representatives, teachers, imams of mosques and people from different professions, he added.
Participants in the rally displayed anti-rape and anti-violence against women posters, leaflets and placards, urging the public to come forward against rape and violence against women and raise awareness against such heinous crimes.
Each rally was broadcast live from its own beat Facebook page, he further added.
This official also said that Bangladesh Police is working with professionalism to bring the perpetrators of rape, violence against women and children under the law to ensure social order, peace and security of the people.
