Law Minister Anisul Haque claimed in parliament yesterday that over 34 lakh cases are currently pending with both the higher and lower courts across the country.
“Now the total number of the cases pending with the country’s higher and lower courts is 34,53,353,” he said, quoting his statistics. However, he assured that the government has taken effective measures for the quick disposal of the huge number of cases, reports UNB.
“The incumbent government has relentlessly been
trying to reduce the backlog of cases taking it as a challenge,” he added.
Haque revealed the number of cases pending with the High Court is 4,95,415, while those with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is 19,493. Of the cases pending the High Court Division, 3,12,205 are criminal cases, 94,492 are civil, and 88,718 are other cases, including contempt and writ petitions, he said. Among the cases pending with the Appellate Division, 13,026 are civil cases, 6,351 are criminal ones and 116 are other cases, including contempt petitions, he added.
