Best of times… Worst of times… PART II Bimbito Kartikdangai
Syed Nasir Ershad
There are 77 poems within the covers of BimbitoKartikdangai. Mohammad Tareque wrote the poems with a lot of passion in his heart. Most of the poems are set in the context of nature. Childhood memory of his village, rivers, soil, water, air, diverse seasons, etc. spread wings in his writing.
Mystery of nature amazes him. He must have had strong bonding with his mother which becomes evident in many a verses of his poetry book.
Picture of eternal mother and child came up in a number of his poems.Love, the very popular subject of all generations, was also tinkered with by him.
Reading a good poem is like taking a comfortable gentle walkin the lush green meadow with mild breeze flowing around. IN BimbitoKartikdangai, the voice betrays a tell-tale, careless urgency, light on contractions, heavy on elisions, never quite maintaining eye contact. The voice in this book is familiar, but the character is not, at least not altogether.
This is a curiously pun-rich book. As poetry, the whole performance is something like marvelous ceramic sculptures, which so exquisitely resemble nature that they transcend their own sublimity and go back to being boring. But hispoems are even stranger than that, because all the while he is mumbling on, the voice still belongs to a faceless character. It is actually closer to watching Discovery channel explaining the origin of human race or the birth of the earth.
Some of his poems, like the very first one which is titled ‘Boyos’ meaning Age, have been divided in, as if, chapters ‘A’, ‘B’, etc. Those describe the emotions and understanding of the poet in a more descriptive manner. His psychological need to come near his birthplace cannot be met always. He says “Chena gharochenaroye jai” meaning the known room remains unknown.
In his poem “Ichcha” meaning wish, he describes how a flower having all the willingness in the world tried to bloom in a number of places and time in this town, But due to various reasons, many of which are uncontrollable but many which could be managed, it could not ultimately blossom.
“Uthon” meaning courtyard carries the feeling of the poet as it is his living place, his battle field. Describing his longingness for achieving so many things in life, it was not possible for him to attain anything significant in life.
But still the dream continues, hope remains alive.
“Sithi” meaning the parting of hair describes the likeliness of women with the nature with all its beauty and mysteriousness.
Stars are flickering in the sky, raindrops are falling from above, memories are dying one after another. However, the mystic dews still create an ambience of heavenly bliss.
“Jonmoavvudoy” meaning birth of a nation tells the story of how this country came into being after a long struggle. This poem also have six tiny chapters each creating a sort of linkage with one another. While the bullets coming out machineguns may make us afraid whether the humanity will perish, the bravery of the people assure us that nothing can stop us from becoming victorious.
