DOT Desk: The US has congratulated Bangladesh on the momentous occasion marking the opening of Padma Bridge today.
The US embassy in a statement issued yesterday said Padma Bridge is another example of Bangladesh’s leadership in promoting regional connectivity in South Asia. It will create important national and regional connectivity and boost commerce and improve the quality of life, reports The Daily Star.
The US Embassy statement also said “The United States congratulates Bangladesh on the momentous opening of the Padma Bridge.”
Building sustainable transport infrastructure to connect people and goods efficiently is important for fostering inclusive economic growth and “The Padma Bridge will create new and important linkages within Bangladesh, boosting commerce and improving the quality of life.”
Padma Bridge, the first multibillion dollar mega project constructed by self-funding, will connect the country’s south and southwestern Bangladesh to Dhaka and the rest of the country. The bridge is projected to increase the country’s GDP by 1.23 percent as the economic activity in the country’s south and southwestern region will be augmented and the supply chain will improve.
