The prime minister’s decision to cancel quota system is correct, said historian Professor Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain. In a recent interview, he said the premier gave a policy-oriented decision in view of the quota reform movement. Some procedures needed for implementing the decision. That is also possible because she has said that even if the whole quota system is revoked, special system will be there for disabled and ethnic people. A committee to implement has to be formed, which has not been done yet. This committee will recommend how the decision will be implemented. “I think the quota system has to be brought under a structure; particularly in the two cases that prime minister gave instructions of. Moreover, there is no need for this huge amount of quota for the freedom fighters’ successors,” he said.“There may be a reasonable quota. But it is also true that freedom fighters did not fight in the liberation war for getting special benefits in Bangladesh, a matter that has to be accepted.” If this quota system stays in place, the number of fake freedom fighters will increase, and so it happened. Therefore, a committee should be constituted; the final decision will be taken on the basis of the recommendations that the committee will give. Those who are protesting, they have to be patient. At least one policy decision has been decided that merit will be given priority. And the government has to be very active in giving a quick decision.
